What is your favorite childhood film? Many people will say “The Sound of Music”. The sound of music in based on the memoir “The Story of the Trapp Family Singers” by Maria von Trapp, published in 1949. This book was adapted to film, stage musical, animation, and television drama. But the most two widespread success of adoption are stage musical in 1959 by the Broadway and film in 1965 by Robert Wise.
The Sound of Music (film) is produced by Robert Wise and starred with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in 1965. The film is based on a true story about Maria Augusta Kutshchera, the young Austrian woman who is studying to be the nun in Salzburg, Austria. One day, Maria was sent to the villa of retired naval officer to take care of seven children of the von Trapp family with love and music to the von Trapp family again. Later on, she married with Captain von Trapp. At the end of the movie, von Trapp family escapes from Austria after the annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany in March 1938. The film was huge successful as the fifth-highest grossing film all the time. The film is worth to watch. Not only yourself to watch, but you can share this movie with your children for watching too. I will not review more about the movie. I will review about “The Soundtrack of the Sound of music by Rodger and Hammerstein’s”.
The soundtrack of The Sound of Music was released with the film in 1965. This soundtrack album had a same and different points. The same point is the music of these two versions was composed by Richard Rodgers and lyrics was written by Oscar Hammerstein II. The two different points are Irwin Kostal was arranged and conducted in the 1965’s film version and three tracks from the original Broadway track in 1959 were removed and replace with two new tracks “I Have Confidence” and “Something Good” which were written by Richard Rodgers only. This album was combined with 16 tracks and record to vinyl on 1964.

“The Sound of Music” is the opening song of the film, started with “The hills are alive with the sound of music” at the Mehlweg Mountain by Julie Andrews. The vocal of Julie Andrews was classically trained soprano. Her vocal are appreciated as pure and clear, made a positive tone for entire of the movie.
“Do-Re-Mi” is another popular track for this soundtrack album. Maria and von Trapp Children sing this lovely song over a montage as they wander and frolic over Salzburg.
“Edelweiss” is also another popular track for this soundtrack album. Edelweiss is the flower anthem of Austria and best-known as European mountain flower. This song was described for people who had to leave home from the war, when they miss home, they will miss to the Edelweiss flower on the mountain and blessed their hometown for the safe. This song was used twice ; first, Captain von Trapp sings this song with his children in their family room and second; at the almost end of the film, Captain von Trapp and his family sing this song in Salzburg Festival again before escapes from Salzburg.
There was a huge success for the soundtrack album of The Sound of The Music. The album reached the first position in the Billboard 200 in the United States. It was remained in the top ten from May 1965 to July 1966. In the United Kingdom, the album was the biggest-selling in 1965, 1967 and 1968.
This album is suitable to play for tea time in the afternoon or for children to listen and learning the word through the music with the beautiful lyrics and music will relief the stress from work and throw back to the childhood again.
